Introducing the person behind the blog! - Discuss & Wonder #1

Welcome to the 2017 Book Blog Discussion Challenge hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight!

It's time for me to finally start posting discussions on my blog. I've been meaning to start doing this since - literally - ages ago. I think I was just afraid of them not being good or interesting enough. That's obviously going to change since I, for lack of better words, grew up. And I want to discuss things that might, or might not be book related through these posts.

The challenge you see above has really motivated me to put one of my many goals for this year, in action. You can check the links and discover more discussion topics than you could ever imagine and interact with awesome people through them! I decided to name mine:

There are so many topics that I want to talk about, but we're taking it one step at a time! I'm going to try and post at least two discussions per week! As always, feel free to leave your comments below, telling me your thoughts on each topic that I choose to elaborate on!

For the first official blog discussion, I decided to introduce my self and discuss my reading habits with you!

Hello, my name is Elena and in this discussion posts, I want to answer some very frequently asked questions about reading itself.

*You can learn more, in the About Me page that I just posted.*

1. When did I start reading?

I was actually in elementary school and our teacher did this thing where, the student who read the most during each month, won an award. She also had this board on the wall with our names and each time we completed a book, we could add it ourselves and present an activity of our choice based on each book we read. With each activity, we got a point.
At the beginning, I never participated but then, I discovered this series based on fairies and there were like, 30+ books out so, I went through them like my life depended on it. And believe me when I say that, I won that award every single month with a difference.

2. Which series really got me into reading?

I started reading YA novels early on, but I wasn't an avid reader of the genre until the age of 13. The series that actually got me into reading were a couple. First of all, The Immortals by Alyson Noel were very high up on my list of favorites and the first series I ever completed. I say favorites because looking back at the books now, I realize that I loved them so much because I didn't have anything to compare them to. Then I picked up Vampire Academy and The Hunger Games and the book reading craze kicked off from there!

3. What Genres do I prefer?

Seriously, the only genres I avoid are Non-Fiction and Horror/Thriller. I lean towards NA lately, but it just depends on my mood. I also have a weakness for Fantasy, even though it's very hard for me to find a series to commit to.

4. Do I prefer E-books or Physical books?

I love physical books, I love smelling them, turning their pages and carrying them around with me. Which doesn't necessarily mean that, I don't read e-books. I have to admit that they are very convenient but, if I like a book I've read in e-book format, I will end up purchasing a physical copy of it anyway!

5. What am I currently reading?

A Darkest Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab

6. What do I plan on reading next?

It depends on my mood!

7.Do I have a favorite reading spot?

I love going to the center of town, sitting on a bench and watching people pass me by, while I'm peacefully getting lost in a book.

8. Do I prefer coffee or tea?

Seriously? Coffee. Sweetened one at that!

9. Do I have a favorite Author or better yet, a favorite Book/Series?

One of the hardest questions ever and I'm pretty sure a lot of people can relate! There are a lot of authors that I admire and it wouldn't be fair to choose just one. And it just depends on whether we're talking about the writing style, the genre, the setting e.t.c. So, the answer to the question would be no.

10. Am I easily affected when it comes to books and the reviews they have from other people?

I'm going to say no to this one because, if I really want to read a book, I'm going to read it regardless of what people think about it. Whether the majority of the reviews are positive or negative, they won't affect me.

11. Do I prefer stand-alone books or series?

It depends on whether I'm satisfied by the ending of a book that is categorized as a standalone or not. When it comes to series, I used to get very overwhelmed in the past because I tried so hard to keep track of them and finish every single one that I started. At this moment in time, I just continue on with the ones that I'm truly interested in and don't really bother with those that have done nothing to pique my interest and make me want to keep reading.

12. What are some of my favorite series?

*Study Series by Maria V.Snyder
*Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill
*Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen

13. How long does it take me to read a book?

It depends on whether I'm fully invested in it or not. If it's a book that I can't put down and I'm eager to finish, it usually takes me from one to three days. Otherwise, I might even need a month to push through a slow paced book and actually finish it.

14. Do I DNF books?

Last year, before my huge reading slump, I hated DNFing books with a passion. I felt like I had to reach the ending, even if I couldn't stand the book or its characters. Now though, I really don't care about books that aren't interesting and fast paced enough to keep me going. I put them down, give myself some time and decide whether I want to continue reading them or not. If they do absolutely nothing for me, I end up DNFing them.

15. Do I like re-reading books?

Yes, I do. Especially old favorites!

16. Do I prefer hyped up books over less popular ones?

Definitely not! If the synopsis of a book intrigues me enough and makes me want to read it, I will. Popularity really doesn't matter when it comes to reading. And I usually stay away from hyped up books that don't interest me. I won't read them just for the sake of reading them because everyone else does.

17. What are my hobbies, except from reading?

I'm currently a student at University. I love drawing, writing and dancing.

Those were all the questions I could come up with for the time being. Comment below if you have any more questions, or topics that you would like me to discuss in future posts!

  2. I was totally sucked in my The Immortals too! I think Twilight was my first official YA series, but The Immortals wasn't too far behind haha

    1. I'm pretty sure that, if I read the Immortals again, I would get sucked right back in but wouldn't actually enjoy it that much :D
