Top Ten Books I Thought I Would Like More/Less {Top Ten Tuesday}

Hello and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. I love doing these posts and I hope you enjoy them! Please comment below telling me if you've read any of the books featured and leave links to your posts! I'd be more than happy to check them out!

So, here are my Top Ten

* I decided to share with you five books that I thought I'd like more and five that I thought I'd like less. There are many more, but these are just the titles that came to mind immediately when I saw this week's topic*

*Stealing Parker By Miranda Kenneally
I'm a huge fan of Miranda Kenneally's books, especially when I'm in the mood for a fun, quick and easy read. Stealing Parker is definitely one of my least favorites from the Hundred Oaks series and I expected to enjoy it as much as I did the rest of the books. Unfortunately, I found it lacking and it wasn't as enjoyable as I had anticipated.

*The Night Circus By Erin Morgenstern
I've heard so many good things about this book so naturally, I expected to - at least - enjoy it. The plot was very unique and it piqued my interest from the beginning but, in the end, I found some parts very slow to get through and the whole thing confused me more than it should have.

*Moonlight On Nightingale Way By Samantha Young
Considering that I literally powered through the rest of the series and immensely enjoyed them, I expected the same to happen with this one. I just posted a review about all the things I found missing so, you can check it out to see my thoughts and opinions on it!

*Cruel Beauty By Rosamund Hodge
I'm a huge fan of retellings so naturally, I rushed to get my hands on Cruel Beauty as soon as it came out. I couldn't get through it without hitting my head on the wall, multiple times. I found the plot very overwhelming, and not in a good way. It was underdeveloped and a lot of things were going on at the same time resulting in the reader's inability to actually keep up.

*Shiver By Maggie Stiefvater
This series was so hyped up, back when it first came out and I decided to give it a try because I'm a huge fan of werewolves and paranormal creatures in general. I thought I would fall in love with it but, unfortunately, it did absolutely nothing for me.

*Uprooted By Naomi Novik
Uprooted was one of those books that I never actually expected to read, much less fall in love with. I picked it up completely on impulse and I couldn't be happier. Sometimes, impulsive decisions are the best! You can check out my review, here!

*Reawakened By Colleen Houck
I tried reading the Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck but I just couldn't do it. It had a very interesting foundation but everything went downhill after that. So, imagine my surprise when, I picked up Reawakened without any expectations and enjoyed it, so much more than I thought I would!

*Sweet Evil By Wendy Higgins
I'm usually not a big fan of books that have to do with angels. I don't know what it is but, I stay away from them. Sweet Evil was the biggest surprise because, not only did I enjoy the first book but I actually completed the whole series!

*Alice By Christina Henry
I saw Alice at the bookstore and because I'm a sucker for retellings and everything that has to do with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, I picked it up. It was perfection! Dark and beautifully written, it explored a side of Alice's original tale that, has not been explored before.

*Snow Like Ashes By Sara Raasch
I'm a huge fan of fantasy but, I always find it hard to come across books of the genre that I genuinely want to commit to and continue reading until the end. I immensely enjoyed reading the first book in the trilogy and I cannot wait for the rest!

That was it for today! Hope you're all having an amazing and very creative week!

  1. I completely agree with your view of Uprooted. I expected to like it but not anywhere near as much as I did. I'm curious about Alice, I too love retellings of that story, adding it to my TBR!

    1. Uprooted has definitely won a spot on my 2017 favorites list. And it's still February! So disappointed that it doesn't have a sequel though. I would definitely recommend Alice! It's such a different take on the original tale. Thank you so much for stopping by!

  2. I thought I'd like The Night Circus more too. I also thought I'd like Snow Like Ashes more, so I'm glad to hear you liked it better than I did.

  3. Man, I didn't even think about Shiver. The writing was so pretty, but a whole lot of nothing happened!

    1. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! I just found it too confusing for my liking. Maybe I'll give it another chance in the future because I read it a while back.

  7. Great picks for this week. The Night Circus is actually an all-time favourite of mine so it's a shame to see you didn't enjoy this one as much, same with Cruel Beauty as well but I guess we can't all like the same books can we?
Alice is a favourite of mine, I really loved it but then again I think I'm guaranteed to love any and all Alice in Wonderland retellings. :)

    1. Glad to hear you enjoyed them! I don't know what happened with The Night Circus and it's definitely on my list of books I want to re-read. I love all kinds of re-tellings but, for some reason, Cruel Beauty just wasn't for me. And I'm definitely a sucker for anything that has to do with Alice in Wonderland!

  8. Haha, we seem to have very different opinions. I loved Shiver, Moonlight on Nightingale Street (Fall From India Place was the one in the series that didn't work for me) and Cruel Beauty, while I could barely finish Sweet Evil. BUT HEY, we totally agree on Uprooted! I only picked it up, because I won a copy and it's one of my all time faves now. Great list!

    1. Hahaha,we all have different opinions, especially when it comes to books!I don't know what it was about Moonlight on Nightingale Way that didn't make me love it as much as I undoubtedly, loved the rest of the books in the series. And I was so surprised when I read Uprooted! Definitely one of my all-time favorites. Thanks for stopping by!

  10. I am right there with you for Moonlight on Nightingale Way. What a huge disappointment that book was for me. With as much as I loved On Dublin Street, I'd hoped to at least enjoy MoNW.

    Great list!

    1. Thank you!Definitely agree with you. Especially because MoNW is the last in the series and I expected it to, at least be enjoyable!

  11. I liked Snow Like Ashes well enough. But I've not yet read the other books, so I'm not sure what that means. ;) Sad to see Cruel Beauty in this category; I was hoping that one would be good. I didn't much care for Rosamund's newest novel, but just assumed that was my dislike of the Romeo and Juliet vibe talking. :D

    1. I'm very eager to read the sequel, Ice Like Fire, and I sincerely hope that, I won't be disappointed. I'm not a big fan of Romeo and Juliet either but, I'm very curious to see her take on it. I might pick it up some time!
