Of Poseidon By Anna Banks {REVIEW}

From Goodreads:

Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom...

Told from both Emma and Galen's points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

So yeah...I have to tell the truth and say that I didn't enjoy Of Poseidon as much as I hoped to.I just read it and when I finished it,it didn't leave me excited or intrigued and dying to read the next book.I don't know why people love it so much and it has such a high rating on Goodreads because seriously?I didn't find it to be a great read for me.And yes I have to admit that I had some expectations but I was disappointed.The book didn't do anything for me and I didn't feel connected with the characters.By the end of the book I didn't feel anything for the characters.I was intrigued and fascinated by the plot at first but when I started reading,I realized that nothing interesting or fascinating was going to happen.And everything was so predictable it was ridiculous.

And let's just talk about the characters.Emma was a flat character...she wasn't caring at all,she wasn't funny,or strong or whatever makes someone love a character.That's why I didn't connect with her while reading the book at all.I think she's not a likeable character at all and the only thing special about her is the fact that she can communicate with fish.And the best moment for me in the book was when she was with the dolphins in the aquarium because well...I love dolphins.She doesn't know what she wants and she lets herself be pushed around by Galen.

Now let's talk about him.I didn't like Galen at all.The only reason he wanted to get close to Emma was because he wanted her to marry his brother.And then he falls for her.I mean...are you serious?Come on.And he just keeps pushing her around and ordering her to do what he wants and controls her.And the worst part is that she doesn't do anything about it.I would have just kicked his ass and got it over with.

And then we have the POVs problem.I don't know if I've mentioned it before but I love it when a book has two different POVs.Because it's amazing to see how the two main characters of a book think.It's always more interesting but this?It was totally different and it took some getting used to since sometimes,it was really confusing.I can't say that Anna Bank's writing was bad but it just wasn't interesting.

Let's just talk about the things I liked in this book because I think I've said many negative things and that is not fair.Even though I didn't exactly connect with the main characters I really liked Toraf and Rayna.The humor and their relationship was pretty unique and complicated and at first,Rayna's behavior was a bit annoying but well,I would have behaved the same way if I was her so...And I loved Chloe's character even though something bad happened.I also liked the mythology part and found the whole Syrena thing to be really interesting but,it was really slow for my liking.

This is one of the few books that did nothing for me.I didn't love it but I didn't hate it.It did literally nothing.The only thing I liked a bit was the last chapter because the truth was revealed.Not that it wasn't predictable from the beginning but still.It was a great cliffhanger that made me want to pick up the next book.I don't know if I'll do that because I don't want to risk being disappointed again if the second book isn't better than the first.So we'll see.

This book did nothing for me and I wouldn't recommend it because it just wasn't that great and I didn't enjoy it.

  1. I totally agree with your review! The POV's were weird, Galen was arrogant and Emma boring. No, I didn't like this book either:)
